The UNWTO and the Government of Andorra, in collaboration with the parish of Andorra la Vella, organize the 8th World Congress on Snow and Mountain Tourism (9-10 April 2014).
Since the first edition, the main objective of the Congress has been to provide a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities of the snow and mountain destinations and to acquire an overview of successful business models, innovation, the impact of climate change and tourism marketing.
For two days, leading international experts will discuss the new strategies to be adopted for mountain tourism, with a special focus on the summer season, best practice of the development of new products for the summer season and the emerging mountain tourism destinations.
"The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has been long addressing the important issue of snow and mountain tourism. Since 1998 we have organized, in partnership with the Government of the Principality of Andorra, the World Congress on Snow and Mountain Tourism held every two years in this inspiring Pyrenees destination".
Mr. Taleb Rifai, UNWTO Secretary-General
"This Congress is intended as a forum for discussion on the main points of attraction of mountain tourism. We will discuss the challenges posed by the seasonality of mountain tourist destinations such as Andorra, and the new potential of summer tourism in the mountains".
Mr. Francesc Camp, Minister of Tourism and Environment of the Governement of Andorra
"The proposed theme for this edition is seasonality. This word, little known, is the key to the future of tourism in the country. It is clear that the snow is the main asset, but it is nonetheless true that the attractions the country has to offer to visitors should not be limited to the winter months. There should be something to do in Andorra all year through".
Mrs. María Rosa Ferrer, Consul Major of Andorra la Vella
