The World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and the Government of Andorra, in collaboration with the parish of Sant Julià de Lòria , will organize the 9th World Congress on Snow and Mountain Tourism (2-4 March 2016).
Since the first edition, the main objective of the Congress has been to provide a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities of the snow and mountain destinations and to acquire an overview of successful business models, innovation, the impact of climate change and tourism marketing.
For three days, leading international experts will discuss topics linking mountain tourism to the oportunities that offer sport and adventure tourism in its different manifestions in order to diversify the range of tourist products and services and to ensure the positioning of mountain areas as all-year round destinations.

"The coming 9th edition of the World Congress of Snow and Mountain Tourism, focusing on adventure and sport tourism, is an opportunity to discuss the development of the segment in the framework of the recently approved Sustainable Development Goals and the new Agenda 2030.".
Mr. Taleb Rifai, UNWTO Secretary-General
"Adventure Tourism and Sport Tourism in the natural environment are based on very complementary activities that are built in the Nature Tourism, as some people called it. Andorra, as a tourist destination, is the ideal place to address all these issues. It is a paradise for nature and mountain lovers, hiking can provide an infinite number of adventures and can make us enjoy an incomparable forest territory, which represents 90% of the 468 km2 of the surface of the country.".
Francesc Camp Torres, Minister of Tourism and Trade of the Government of Andorra
"The title, Sport and Adventure – a promising combination for mountain destinations – refers to the main objective of the congress. Extend an offer that is not necessarily linked to the snow period. This is where it is necessary to implicate the practice of the most traditional winter sports with new resources that arise in the different mountain resorts.".
Ms. Montserrat Gil, Mayor Sant Julià de Lòria
