Director for Community Economic Development
Alan Mason is the Director of Community Economic Development for Revelstoke and area, and has held this position for the past 10 years. In his position, Alan has responsibility for facilitating economic, social and environmental initiatives on behalf of local government. Probably the largest project that has been undertaken in Revelstoke over the past 6 years has been the development of Revelstoke Mountain resort, a major four-season resort. Alan has been closely involved in working with the resort, and has a good understanding of the development process that has occurred, and of the success that the resort has enjoyed in its early stages of development.
Prior to assuming his current position in 2001, Alan was the Executive Director of the Revelstoke Community Skills Centre. Alan sits on the Board of Directors of various community agencies, including the Revelstoke Community Housing Society and Community Futures Revelstoke. He is also past Chair of the Revelstoke Affordable Housing Committee, Community Connections, the major social service agency in the community, Revelstoke Family and Youth Resources, the Columbia Mountains Institute for Ecological Research, and the Revelstoke Youth Soccer Association.
Alan has an M.A. from the University of Alberta in Canada and a B.A. (Honours) from the University of Stirling in Scotland, has over 25 years experience working in the field of community economic development, and extensive experience working with, and as part of, community organizations. Alan and his family enjoy the many outdoor recreation opportunities available in the Revelstoke area, including hiking, skiing and cycling.
