About Accomodation and Hospitality in Mountain Destinations

New strategies for success

Marca Mountainliker

Since the mid-1980s there has been a significant change in mountain regions regarding demand and expectations of visitor and tourist related to experiences and accommodation concepts. This paradigm change has accelerated with new consumer patters, innovation in technology and new platform tourism services that have revolutionized the distribution of tourism activities, accommodation options and supply size at the same time.

Tailor-made products and unique experiences are ever more in demand and need to cater to an increasingly fragmented demand site. Addressing this shift in visitor experiences by customizing products can increase chances to attract new visitors, decrease the effects of seasonality and diversify the product supply so as to develop the mountain destination to more than just a ski destination.

Innovation, knowledge and quality are keys to success for mountain destinations and help to make the most of spectacular mountain panoramas, unique natural resources and the warm hospitality of local mountain societies with their traditions and cultures.

The 10th World Congress on Snow and Mountain Tourism aims at creating a platform among the various stakeholders for dialogue and shared vision on a strategic approach to mountain tourism. Participants will discuss how to take action to enhance the potential of mountain destinations in the context of hospitality, quality and the challenges and opportunities of modern technologies.

The objective of this tenth edition of the congress is to address how to significantly strengthen innovation in, and the appeal of, mountain areas as destinations. The debates will deal with new tourism products and approaches to diversification, marketing and accommodation, all of which make it possible to attract new clientele to mountain tourism destinations whilst maintaining loyal customers through new visitor experiences.

Mobile technologies and the role of smart mobile applications will also be discussed. The congress will take place in Escaldes-Engordany and follow a programme based on case studies and first-hand experiences, with a panel of high-profile international speakers and direct audience participation in the debates that follow each presentation.
